"The Ballad of Serenity" escrita por el mismo Joss Whedon y cantada por Sonny Rhodes, esa de la letra de ahí arriba, es el himno de los Browcoats… y me va a costar escribir este review, porque al igual que con el de Firefly, no logro explicar todo lo que este fenómeno es, pero bueno, les dejo acá un mensaje de este señor Joss (el que dio en un screening de la peli y que está en el DVD) antes de aburrirlos yo.

Hi I'm Joss Whedon. Before we begin this special screening, I have a little story I want to tell you. It's about a TV show called Firefly. Firefly went on the air a few years ago and was instantly hailed by critics as one of the most cancelled shows of the year. It was ignored and abandoned, and the story should end there. But it doesn't, because the people who made the show and the people who saw the show—which is roughly the same number of people—fell in love with it a little bit too much to let it go, too much to lay down arms when the battle looked pretty much lost.

In Hollywood, people like that are called unrealistic, quixotic, obsessive. In my world, they're called Browncoats. Now whether you watched the show on TV or saw the DVDs—or whether you never set foot in the Firefly universe before tonight—the fact that you're here means that you're part of something, something that is a little bit remarkable. This movie should not exist. Failed TV shows don't get made into major motion pictures—unless the creator, the cast and the fans believe beyond reason. That's what I have felt, and that's what I have seen in the DVD sales, the booths at the cons run by fans, the web sites and the fundraisers—all the work the fans have done helped make this movie.

It is, in an unprecedented sense, your movie. Which means…if it sucks, it's your fault. You blew it. You let us down. But let's not dwell on your failures, because the work is not done. I have to finish making it. This is not quite a final cut, and you'll notice some placeholders in music and FX. But we are very close, and once we are finished…you have to get people to see it.

Now obviously the studio will do its thing. There will be ads and trailers and all that joy, but this movie does not have stars. It doesn't have a giant mega budget. It doesn't even have a simple saleable premise. What it has is us—the people who believed unreasonably. If this movie matters to you, let somebody know. Let everybody know. Make yourselves heard.

If you don't like the movie…this is a time for quiet, for months of silent contemplation. But when the unfinished credits roll—if you still call yourself a Browncoat—remember the millions of people who don't…who might. I want us to do this together. I'm fairly certain we're all doing everything we can to make this the event it should be. Because remember: they tried to kill us. They did kill us, and here we are. Guarda que puede haber spoilers…

Qué les puedo decir… he visto la película ya 10 veces… y así como esa primera vez, el 31 de diciembre de 2005, cuando la vimos con todos los scoobies, me sigo emocionando igual. Me sigo riendo y se me siguen escapando las lágrimas. Es así, inevitable, es el trabajo de Joss, como lo ha sido siempre.

Esta película es importante porque nos dio la oportunidad de ver a nuestro héroe finalizar su viaje. No siempre pasa eso, no con una serie. De hecho, no pasó con Firefly. No fue como en "Chosen", cuando todos vimos cómo Buffy terminaba su viaje, de esa forma que ninguno de nosotros imaginaba pero que desde siempre, desde el teaser del primer episodio queríamos ver.

La película arranca desde donde nos deja "Those Left Behind"; lo que nos deja parados en una situación donde cualquiera, sin necesidad de haber visto la serie, puede comprender la historia. La tripulación de Serenity, no ha tenido trabajo en un buen tiempo y hay muchos planetas a los que no pueden llegar debido al peligro de que Simon y River sean encontrados por la Alianza.

Para quienes están escépticos sobre el trabajo de Joss… qué les puedo decir, tal vez esta película los haga cambiar de opinión. Tiene mucha y muy buena acción. Tiene una historia fuerte, no es un simple plot con estallidos para entretener a masas descerebradas. Los diálogos son buenos y las actuaciones son espectaculares. Es una buena película de Ciencia Ficción.

Y si no querés spoilearte, salteate el próximo párrafo.

Está bien… desde el poster de la peli, uno sabe que la película está bastante centrada en el personaje de River. Y no es poca cosa, de hecho la hace genial. Tiny ass-kicker girls are always cool. Pero también en la película pudimos ver ese beso que Kaylee y Simon nunca se dieron, una "Companion Training House", la verdadera historia de los reavers, y ese fin de viaje, del que hablé recién, ver cómo Mal finalmente gana la guerra… lo que al menos para mi, como browncoat era lo más importante y de hecho lo es… También está esa parte de Joss, la que nos hizo llorar una y otra vez en cada una de sus series, esa que te deja el sabor amargo, esa que te hace meterte en la historia y sentir las cosas como si fueran de verdad. Pero si no estuvieran… ¿realmente amaríamos tanto su trabajo? Nope. Porque son esas cosas las que hacen bueno a su trabajo, las que te hacen ver la realidad dentro de la fantasía, que te hacen sentir parte de la historia.

Realmente me quedo con el sabor, de nuevo, de que no puedo decir todo lo que quiero decir sobre la película. Pero en fin, si alguno de ustedes en algún momento la ve, y nunca vio la serie, de veras me gustaría escuchar sus opiniones. Ojalá que así sea, ojala que todo lo que yo salameo haciendole propaganda convierta a un par de browncoats más :)
